These terms cover scarybacon.com: the front page, The Exchange at /home, The Horror Seminar at /seminar, and our emails and videos. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

What this site is

Scary Bacon makes videos about horror and teaches people how to write it. The Exchange is entertainment analytics on fictional horror-property instruments: an attention index, not a securities market. Its prices, scores, forecasts and calls are simulated, and nothing on it can be traded for real money. None of it is investment, financial, legal or professional advice. The numbers come from public sources and can be late or wrong. Answers from Ask the Exchange are written by AI and can be wrong too.

Our emails

If you give us your email address, you agree to get Matt’s Weekly Horror Take and occasional notes about new rooms such as the Terror Terminal and the Horror Seminar. We aim for about one email a week and may send fewer. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Our privacy notice says what we store.

The Horror Seminar

The Seminar teaches craft. It does not promise a sale, a job, a credit or any other result. The cohort, the membership and the retreat described on the Seminar page are not on sale yet. Asking to be told when one opens creates no obligation for either side. When one does open, its price, dates, what is included and its refund terms will be shown before you pay, and they apply to that purchase on top of these terms.

Please don’t send us scripts or ideas

We don’t read or accept scripts, treatments, story ideas or other creative material. If you send something anyway, you send it on the understanding that we owe you no payment, credit or confidentiality, and that we may already be working on something similar.

Using the site

Use it lawfully. Don’t scrape it in ways that strain our servers, don’t automate signups or form submissions, don’t probe or try to break it, and don’t copy our content for commercial use without asking. Linking to us is welcome.

Who owns what

The text, images, logo, videos and index data are ours or our licensors’. You may view and share them for personal, non-commercial use with credit and a link. Film and show titles and credits belong to their owners, and mentioning them is not an endorsement by or of anyone. Videos play from YouTube and are also covered by YouTube’s terms.

No guarantees

We provide the site as it is. We don’t promise it will always be available, accurate or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it, which for most visitors is nothing. Nothing here limits rights you have by law.

Changes and the law

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
